Prime Video Unveils First Trailer for 'Carrie', Its New Series Based on Stephen King's Novel
Prime Video announced this weekend that the eight episodes of Carrie, the highly anticipated new Prime Original series, will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on October 7, in over 240 countries and territories worldwide.
The news about the premiere was revealed this weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con. The panel included showrunner and director Mike Flanagan, a specialist in horror and adapting works by Stephen King.
Based on King's iconic debut novel, Carrie is a bold, timely, and surprising reinvention of the classic coming-of-age story, adapted for television for the first time by visionary showrunner Mike Flanagan.
The series follows misunderstood high school student Carrie White (Summer H. Howell), who has spent her life confined within the walls of her home alongside her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After the sudden and premature death of her father, Carrie is thrust into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, forced to navigate a scandalous bullying incident that goes viral and shakes her community, the incessant pressure and everyday cruelty of the social media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that emerge alongside her adolescence.
Told over eight episodes with an unrelenting pace, the series expands on King's cultural milestone, delving into its characters and tensions while following the small everyday choices that build towards a devastating, deeply human night about kindness versus cruelty and whether we are witnessing the origin of a heroine, a monster, or something much more complex.
As previously announced, Carrie stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White, chosen for the legendary titular role after an exhaustive casting process that auditioned over 1,000 actors. The main cast of the series also includes Samantha Sloyan (The Pitt) as Margaret White, Siena Agudong (Resident Evil) as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton (Fire Country) as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette (My Life with the Walter Boys) as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah (The Buccaneers) as Tina, Arthur Conti (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) as Billy, Thalia Dudek (The Running Man) as Emaline, Amber Midthunder (Prey) as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard (Man of Tomorrow) as Principal Grayle.
Carrie features showrunner Mike Flanagan (Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Hill House) as writer and executive producer, who also directs four episodes. Stephen King also serves as an executive producer. The series is a production of Amazon MGM Studios.
Stephen King's debut novel, Carrie, was published in 1974, marking the beginning of a career in which his books have sold over 350 million copies worldwide. The work remained on The New York Times bestseller list for 14 weeks and has been translated into over 35 languages. The film adaptation by Brian De Palma in 1976, nominated for an Oscar, solidified the cultural impact of the story; this year marks the 50th anniversary of the film.
