Coinhouse Reaches New Regulatory Milestone with ACPR Approval
A "banking" license to operate on stablecoins
Coinhouse announced on July 24, 2026, that it has obtained its payment institution license, issued by the Prudential Control and Resolution Authority (ACPR).
Following the receipt of its MiCA approval, Coinhouse takes another step forward by obtaining its payment institution license from the ACPR.
This status, now essential for fully operating on stablecoins, allows us to expand our service offerings...
In practical terms, this license allows the French platform to provide several payment services related to electronic money tokens, also known as e-money tokens (EMT). It is the European regulatory framework that now governs the vast majority of stablecoins marketed in Europe.
This status, often referred to as a true "banking" license, represents, according to the platform, the ongoing convergence between traditional finance and on-chain finance.
What it changes for users
With this license, Coinhouse can now offer a more comprehensive range of services around MiCA-compliant stablecoins, notably the EUR CoinVertible (EURCV) and the USD Coin (USDC). Coinhouse indicates that other stablecoins are expected to be added to the list.
The use cases covered are broad, including both the custody and arbitrage of investment positions, international settlements and payments, as well as access to yield products in decentralized finance (DeFi). This was a missing piece until now to enable clients to fully utilize stablecoins beyond merely avoiding volatility and taxation.
This license also allows Coinhouse to open its licensed services to other Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASP) that have not yet obtained this status, in a payment agent capacity. This strengthens its role as infrastructure within the European ecosystem.
A strategy that accelerates after MiCA
This new license adds to the MiCA approval obtained by Coinhouse in May 2026 from the AMF, as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider. The platform now offers 7 services on crypto-assets as provided by the European MiCA regulation, covering nearly 70 cryptocurrencies.
The acquisition of this payment institution license represents a major new step in Coinhouse's strategy. Nicolas Louvet, CEO and co-founder
According to him, stablecoins will play "a central role in the emergence of new uses for crypto-assets, beyond mere investment logic."
Founded in 2014 under the name "La Maison du Bitcoin," Coinhouse claims to have over 100,000 active customer accounts. The platform had already been chosen at the end of June by Bitget to support its former French users after ceasing operations in France.
A new phase for the European market
Beyond the Coinhouse case, this license illustrates the entry of the European crypto-asset market into a phase of regulatory maturity. With the deployment of MiCA, the most regulated players can now combine investment, payment, and circulation of stablecoins within a harmonized framework across the 27 member states.
For French investors, this translates into an expanded offering on a local platform, at a time when several international exchanges have had to suspend their services in France due to a lack of MiCA approval.
