South Korean exchanges face scrutiny over token listings
South Korean crypto exchanges' self-regulated listing system is under renewed scrutiny due to issues with overseas tokens on domestic platforms. Responses from exchanges have varied, leading to demands for transparent disclosure of post-listing review standards and decision-making criteria. Storage (STORJ) was placed on a delisting watchlist after Storage Labs filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, while Movement token has seen no action for nearly a month following Movement Labs' bankruptcy filing. Different conclusions were reached regarding meme coin Bonk after a hack, with some exchanges opting to delist it and others removing investment-caution designations. South Korea currently has 768 listed tokens, raising concerns that post-listing reviews may become less stringent as exchanges compete to increase the number of listed assets. Urgent investor protection measures are needed, including clearer maintenance standards and disclosure of the review process.
