Anthropic CEO: Lack of Trust is the Cause of AI Backlash
The CEO of Anthropic pointed out that the lack of trust in companies, governments, and the tech industry is the reason for the backlash against artificial intelligence (AI) in the United States. Dario Amodei refuted criticisms on the 15th in a post on X, stating that his message was not overly pessimistic despite claims that warnings about AI risks have fueled backlash. He acknowledged that the AI industry has failed to adequately convey that technology can change the world for the better. Amodei disagreed with the assertion that the public's negative perception of AI is due to warnings from himself or other figures in the AI sector. He referred to it as a 'fundamental crisis of trust,' explaining that the general public does not trust companies and governments. Amodei emphasized that the criticism of AI companies stems from promises that have yet to be realized. Regarding regulatory debates, Amodei countered the claim that regulations concentrate AI technology in a few large companies, calling it a 'false choice,' and stated that Anthropic supports California's Frontier AI Transparency Act. He explained that this legislation requires large AI developers to disclose risk assessments and management systems while being designed not to burden smaller companies.
