Vote on Clarity Act Scheduled for September 15 Amid Growing Uncertainty in Crypto Regulation
On September 15, the U.S. Senate will hold a procedural vote on whether to consider the Clarity Act bill. The bill aims to create a comprehensive regulatory framework for the cryptocurrency market. However, doubts are increasing about whether the bill can pass Congress this year. The bill had previously passed the Senate Banking Committee with a vote of 15 to 9 and has been awaiting a floor vote since then. The crypto sector is seeking clarity on which tokens will be classified as securities and which as commodities. The vote will be a procedural one that will allow the bill to move to a final vote, requiring support from at least 60 senators. Since Republicans alone cannot reach this number, support from Democrats is essential. If the vote fails, one of the significant regulatory efforts for the crypto sector may be delayed until 2027.
