The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative announced that, following President Trump's directive, a 25% tariff will be imposed on certain Brazilian goods. This decision stems from a year-long investigation that found Brazil's practices in digital trade, electronic payment services, unfair preferential tariffs, anti-corruption enforcement interventions, intellectual property protection, ethanol market access, and illegal deforestation to be unreasonable, affecting the business activities of American farmers, workers, innovative companies, and exporters. U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer stated that despite extensive negotiations with Brazil, these issues remain unresolved. The U.S. is willing to continue negotiations with Brazil to address the issues identified in the investigation. Meanwhile, the U.S. will exempt Brazilian beef and coffee from the new tariffs.
