The Number of Used Cars Increased, Prices Rose
By the end of August, there were 321.5 thousand unique listings for the sale of used cars on AUTO.RIA, which is 5.1% more than at the end of July. The median price of cars rose by 2.2% from $8,900 to $9,100. In August, 101,764 unique used cars appeared on the platform, while 86,513 cars confirmed their disappearance from the online offering. The disappearance of a listing does not always mean the car was sold. The total declared value of all active offers at the end of August amounted to $4.39 billion compared to $4.04 billion a month earlier. 54.8% of cars were sold for $5,000 to $20,000, 26.6% cost less than $5,000, and 18.7% were priced at $20,000 or more. The largest share of the new offerings was Volkswagen with 12,418 cars, followed by BMW with 7,444, Audi with 7,200, Renault with 5,810, and Ford with 5,317. The newest models included: Volkswagen Passat with 3,151 cars, Skoda Octavia with 2,820, and Volkswagen Golf with 2,789. The age of the used car fleet remains high: 61.4% of the active offers consist of cars older than 13 years, with a median age of 15 years. The number of transactions with used cars increased by only 0.6%, while the flow of new online offers grew by 3.2%. At the beginning of September, uneven price changes were noted depending on the type of engine: the median price of hybrids rose by 4.7%, gasoline cars by 4.2%, while diesel cars remained virtually unchanged. Domestic resales decreased by 4.3% compared to July and by 6.4% year-on-year, totaling 71,154 passenger cars. The Volkswagen Passat remained the most popular model.
