Thai businessmen sue Tether over 42.4M USDT freeze
Two Thai businessmen have filed a lawsuit against Tether in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York regarding the freezing of 42417785 USDT without a court warrant. The complaint states that Tether blacklisted the address on October 30 last year following an informal request from a U.S. Homeland Security Investigations agent, without any warrant or court order at that time. The plaintiffs claim that a seizure warrant was issued by the U.S. government in February this year, directing that the USDT be burned and reissued to a government-controlled wallet. However, the lawsuit argues that this warrant did not authorize Tether to freeze or burn the tokens. The plaintiffs seek to lift the freeze, prevent any burning of the tokens, recover damages, and compel Tether to return interest income allegedly earned while managing the reserves backing the frozen USDT. These claims are allegations by the parties involved, and no court ruling has been made.
