Senator Cynthia Lummis Criticizes Democrats Over Clarity Act Delay
Senator Cynthia Lummis criticized Democrats for delaying the Clarity Act during a speech on the Senate floor. Lummis highlighted the bipartisan efforts behind the bill but expressed confusion over its stalling. Lawmakers aim to pass the Clarity Act before the August recess, but some Democrats are dissatisfied with its current version. Lummis stated, "This is a very good bill: good for the country, good for consumers, and good for the people we all represent on both sides of this aisle," and questioned what further changes were needed. The bill has garnered support from major financial institutions and lawmakers, yet a group of Democrats recently claimed it falls short in its present form. The Clarity Act, which passed the House of Representatives last year with strong bipartisan backing, has faced a deadlock in 2026 due to banking lobby concerns regarding stablecoin yield. An updated version of the bill was introduced last week, addressing ethics issues by prohibiting government officials and their families from promoting crypto. Republicans are seeking bipartisan support this week to advance the legislation, which aims to establish a regulatory framework for the cryptocurrency market. Lummis, known as the "Bitcoin Senator," has owned Bitcoin since 2013 and has played a key role in pro-crypto legislation.
