OpenAI Resets Usage Limits for ChatGPT Work and Codex Users

OpenAI has reset usage limits for all ChatGPT Work and Codex users. Tibo, the product lead for Codex, stated that recent user feedback indicated that the GPT-5.6 Sol was consuming Codex limits faster than expected. After investigation, several optimizations have been implemented. It is anticipated that under typical usage scenarios, the endurance of Sol's limits will improve by approximately 18%, with some users noticing more significant improvements starting today. Tibo pointed out that Sol is more inclined to work for extended periods, make additional tool calls, and coordinate complex processes, while the High mode consumes more tokens compared to previous models. Additionally, factors such as parallel tool calls and increased input caching in code mode have also led to some tasks exceeding expected usage. OpenAI stated that Sol represents a significant upgrade in Codex capabilities, but improvements in model capabilities do not always translate to efficiency gains. The company will continue to optimize code mode efficiency and restore the five-hour limit that was paused during the investigation.
