Government Budget Increases Defense Spending to 63%

From January to June 2026, the general fund expenditures of the state budget amounted to 2.23 trillion UAH, which is 354.1 billion UAH, or 18.9% more than in the same period last year. In June, 431.5 billion UAH was spent from the state budget. A total of 1.4 trillion UAH was allocated for security and defense, accounting for 63% of all expenditures. In June, 263.5 billion UAH was spent for these purposes. The main areas of expenditure include: 851 billion UAH for the salaries of budget employees (38.2% of all expenditures), 384.9 billion UAH for subsidies and transfers (17.3%), 352.1 billion UAH for social security (15.8%), 262.4 billion UAH for goods and services (11.8%), 184.5 billion UAH for debt servicing, and 142.7 billion UAH for transfers to local budgets. Funds for social security are directed towards supporting pensioners, assisting families, and housing subsidies. Expenditures on goods and services include support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the purchase of military equipment. In the first half of the year, nearly 1.9 trillion UAH was received in the general fund of the state budget.
