Government Allocates 57.4 Billion UAH for Teacher Salary Increases
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has allocated 57.4 billion UAH in educational subsidies for September to December 2026. An additional 0.5 billion UAH has been set aside in reserve to address the financial needs of communities. The allocated funds will allow for an average salary increase of 20% for educators starting in September 2026. To achieve this, the government has redistributed 25.8 billion UAH to the relevant budget program. Education Minister Andriy Butenko noted that the distribution of funds by the end of the year will give communities a clear understanding of the financing volume, enabling timely salary payments considering the increase. Concurrently, the government has changed the parameters of the subsidy distribution formula: the maximum class size for primary schools is set at 24 students, all suspended lesson hours have been reinstated, and the updated formula will more accurately determine the funding needs for salaries. Starting September 1, teachers' salaries will increase by 20%, which combined with a 30% increase in January will result in a total salary growth of 50% in 2026.
