Ethiopia Cuts Power Supply to Bitcoin Miners by Three Quarters
Ethiopian Electric Power has reduced the electricity supply to the Bitcoin mining industry by three quarters due to a significant decrease in inflow to hydroelectric dams caused by the El Niño phenomenon. Bitcoin mining companies contributed 35% of the company's revenue in the past fiscal year and consumed nearly one-third of the country's total electricity generation of 9,730 megawatts. This power restriction could severely impact local mining operations.
