Aragon Launches Confidential Voting Plugin Based on Zama
Aragon has launched a confidential voting plugin called 'Confidential Voting' that encrypts individual voting choices. This plugin allows for the total number of votes for, against, and abstaining to be disclosed after voting, without revealing individual selections during the process. Aragon OSx is a modular framework designed for DAOs to manage assets and authority while combining various plugins, based on the Zama protocol. Voters can choose one of three options—yes, no, or abstain—through the Aragon interface, and their selections are encrypted and submitted using the Zama Relayer SDK. This SDK supports the transmission of encrypted inputs to smart contracts without users needing to communicate directly with the gateway chain. The plugin verifies encrypted votes and aggregates them by reflecting their weights using fully homomorphic encryption (FHE). It does not grant decryption rights for individual votes, and threshold decryption is only performed for the final total after voting concludes. Real-time aggregation is not provided during the voting period, and encrypted ballots can be changed until the deadline. Confidential Voting is designed as a modular structure that can be used alongside other governance features of Aragon OSx. When a DAO passes a proposal, that DAO executes the relevant tasks, while the plugin only changes the voting method and maintains the existing execution authority structure of the OSx system.
