AI Builds Zoom Exploit in Under 24 Hours
A researcher used publicly available AI models to identify vulnerabilities in Zoom's annotation tool, creating a working exploit in less than 24 hours. Named 'Zoomsday' by Israeli cybersecurity firm A Security, the exploit allows an attacker to take control of another participant's device without their action. This could enable data theft, unauthorized access to microphones or cameras, and installation of malicious software. The attack was tested on Zoom's apps across Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. A Security described the exploit as 'nation-state-grade,' noting that such capabilities previously required extensive resources and time. The vulnerabilities are tracked as CVE-2026-53413, CVE-2026-53414, and CVE-2026-53415. A Security reported the first flaw to Zoom on June 10, with fixes released between June 22 and July 20. However, users still need to update their apps due to limitations in server-side safeguards for end-to-end encrypted meetings. A Zoom spokesperson confirmed the issue was resolved and urged users to keep their software updated. This report highlights the increasing use of AI tools in the tech industry to uncover security flaws.
