12 Dachshund Puppies Rescued at Argentina-Uruguay Border

An operation at the border between Argentina and Uruguay led to the rescue of twelve Dachshund puppies, known as "wiener dogs," who were being transported illegally along with an adult female dog. The discovery was made at the General Artigas international bridge, where officials found the animals hidden under a back seat and covered with a blanket. The puppies, approximately one month old, did not meet the necessary health and documentation requirements to enter the country. The operation was carried out by the National Customs Directorate of Uruguay, which acted on suspicion of possible illegal transport. After the rescue, the thirteen dogs were placed under the care of the health services of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries, where they will be evaluated to determine their health status. The animals may undergo a quarantine period before being transferred to animal welfare organizations for recovery and eventual rehoming. This case highlights concerns about the clandestine transport of animals without controls, which violates regulations and exposes pets to risky conditions.
